THEATERWORKS AMSTERDAM PRESENTS ‘ONE’

ONE is a series of one-acts showcasing our struggle to reach out for contact with, and comfort from, our fellow humans. With ONE Theaterworks Amsterdam continues our tradition of presenting thought-provoking, relevant theater like ‘The Crucible’, ‘What I heard in Iraq’ and ‘The Moon is Down’.

ONE presents short stories many of us know from our own lives – stories of fear, love, loneliness and strength. In ‘Iowa’, we meet a young man who is the prime suspect in the murder of a classmate. His mother struggles with her love for her son, and her fear that his deed will decide her own survival in an unforgiving world. In ‘Vigil’, illness and death bring two strangers together for support and the strength to face harsh decisions. And in ‘Wavelength’, loneliness and isolation break down class barriers to create an unlikely bond.

Continuing the evening’s theme, Theaterworks is also reaching out - to our audiences, and to artists here and abroad. The one-acts are written by award winning American playwrights, and presented in Amsterdam by a mix of Dutch and American artists. They are presented, and sponsored by, a beloved local theater, de Cameleon, in a style famous in the off-off Broadway basements of New York – on the cheap, with low tech/no budget productions values, focusing our attention on the stories, and the talents of the artists presenting them.

ONE will be performed in English.
