When evil attacks a community, Church & State join forces to root it out. But when the 'evidence' points to your neighbor, where will you stand?

Arthur Miller wrote THE CRUCIBLE in reaction to events that took place in the U.S.A. in what would become infamous as the "McCarthy Era". 50 years later, American journalists are being sent to jail for refusing to "name names", an innocent man is gunned down by policemen in the London subways because he was acting like a terrorist, and EU member countries are patrolling their borders in a futile attempt to keep fear at bay. 50 years after THE CRUCIBLE was first performed, Theaterworks Amsterdam brings it to the stage again – because we obviously weren't paying enough attention when Mr. Miller first wrote it. Listen up folks: the madness only spreads if we pass it on…

Kenan Raven ("Onderweg Naar Morgen", "Phileine Zegt Sorry") plays the central role of John Proctor, a man who struggles with his conscience and fights for his good name, in the face of insurmountable odds. He is joined by Jasmine Soori-Arachi in the role of Abigail, whose broken heart will set the village of Salem on fire; Alfred van der Poll as Reverend Parris, whose attempt to protect himself from scandal threatens to destroy his life; and 'Don Sesia as Reverend Hale, the scholar who comes to lay rumor to rest, only to be drawn into a hell of self-doubt and state-sanctioned murder.
